This month we spoke about the introduction of the Care Act across England
Oomph! are supportive of this new legislation, specifically two key areas that relate directly to our work.
We also profiled one of our Instructors, Barchester's Richard Sweeting, who has now been delivering Oomph! classes for over a year. He explains how we works with the residents in his home and the impact Oomph! classes have on his home.
We welcomed Hica Group to the Oomph! cohort, who have received training in Exercise Leadership and Activity Leadership across their group. Penni Brown, CEO of Hica, had this to say:
"We are delighted with our new partnership with Oomph! Their success speaks for itself as we are already seeing very positive results. Our philosophy is to ensure people get the most out of life... we will work with Oomph! to develop these things further."
In other news, we are now delighted to say we are the most recommended provider in the entire Care Sector! Read what staff and family have to say about us here
Finally a wonderful testimonial from a care home manager supporting the work of their Oomph! instructor:
“Our Instructor, Samantha is now doing 9 sessions per week (3 per week on each unit) due to high resident demand and 46 out of 63 residents are participating. Some of our residents who would never have participated in a group like this are coming along and loving every minute of this. We have also seen a reduction in falls over the last few months from those who attend a few times per week and I definitely put this down to Oomph! and how much confidence residents have now gained. They look forward to the group and when I watch them and the effort they put in and the joy it seems to bring them, it is amazing - even our nearly 106 year old is hooked on Oomph! I feel that Oomph! has made a huge difference to our home.” Bobby Dougan, Care Home Manager, Antonine House, Meallmore
Oomph! instructor Samantha with Flo, 106 year old resident who participates in Oomph! 3x per week!
Today Oomph! are celebrating International Day of Happiness. Given Our Organisation Makes People Happy! we are supporting this campaign 100%.
This campaign is a global celebration to mark the United Nations International Day of Happiness. It is coordinated by Action for Happiness, a non-profit movement of people from 160 countries, supported by a partnership of like-minded organisations.
To celebrate, here are the three stories from our residents that have made us most happy over the last few months! What incredible ladies! Can you suggest any others we should have profiled? Email us email@example.com
Oomph! are delighted to release our Impact Report for the last quarter of 2014.
We're thrilled that all of our key metrics have rapidly increased versus the previous quarter:
Read the full report here. This is testimony to the tireless energy, enthusiasm and creativity of our instructors and our training team - but we also think it's a sign that the home managers and wider staff are playing a greater role in supporting delivery.
The Impact Report also highlights initial results from our study with Sentimoto - who helped us collect activity data from wearable wrist-sensors worn by 6 participants over a month. The study at Bridge House Care Home (Carebase) showed an average increase in exercise intensity of 6.5% for every Oomph! session participated in. It also showed that those residents taking part most frequently showed the biggest increases in strength. Increased strength means more independence in residents, which reduces staffing needs on the ground, as one of the managers highlighted: "Oomph! has improved the life of residents and it has taken a lot of pressure off staff - residents are happier and feel healthier so ask for less from the staff."
Finally... this is our first Impact Report (possibly the first anywhere!) to feature a song! But not just any song.... this was written by one of the residents who never misses a class - and rounds up other residents in the home encouraging them to join too! We think it sums up how our residents feel about the Oomph! experience:
The Oomph! Song (Sung to the tune of “You Are My Sunshine)
We are the Oomphers, the care home Oomphers,
It makes us happy when days are grey,
You will never know it unless you join us,
Please don’t take our Oomph! class away.
We all love Oomph! now, it makes us move more,
It makes our feet tap and come alive,
You’ll never know dears unless you do it,
Come and give our Oomph! class a try!
