Astronomer Patrick Moore born (1923)

Today marks the birthday of Sir Patrick Moore, who was born on 4th March 1923 in Pinner, Middlesex. Widely regarded as ‘The Nation’s Favourite Astronomer’, Moore spent over 60 years as a presenter on the long-running BBC programme astronomically themed programme ‘The Sky at Night.’ His life and work are celebrated by fans and friends alike who admire his deep knowledge and enthusiasm for astronomy and all things celestial.

To honour his memory each year, people can celebrate his birthday with their own star gazing expeditions – which have become even simpler in recent years with digital telescopes becoming increasingly popular – or for those unable to head outside, why not indulge in a spot of sideral theorising instead?

Whatever you choose, encourage people in your care-setting to lift their eyes to the stars this day and remember the legacy of Sir Patrick Moore with these resources!
