Coronation of Queen Elizabeth 2nd in Westminster Abbey (1953)

Coronation of Queen Elizabeth 2nd in Westminster Abbey (1953)

Today we are celebrating the 68th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth 2nd in Westminster Abbey (1953). The day was extravagantly celebrated around the world, especially in the UK. Coronations at Westminster Abbey have been held for 900 years, but the coronation of 1953 was special- it was the first ever to be televised! It was watched by 27 million people in the UK alone and millions more around the world.

A little fact, Queen Elizabeth II is the sixth Queen to have been crowned in Westminster Abbey, the first was Queen Mary I, who was crowned on 1 October 1553.
