First taxi meter in use in London (1878)

The taxi meter was invented in the late 1800s in Germany by Friedrich Bruhn, with the first taxi including the machine created in 1897. At first, the meters were all placed outside of the cab, before later being mounted inside the vehicle where they could be more easily viewed by the driver and passenger.
