Maureen O'Hara, Irish actress and singer born in Ranelagh Ireland

Maureen O’Hara, born Maureen FitzSimons, was the first Irish woman to become a Hollywood superstar. Born in a creative family where various forms of art were encouraged and practised, she had her first performance at the age of 6 at her school concert. She made her first appearance in Hollywood in Alfred Hitchcock’s Jamaica Inn, in 1939. She moved to Hollywood the same year and signed a contract with RKO Pictures, and then never looked back. This passionate and sensible actress ruled people’s hearts and won the nickname “The Queen of Technicolour.” 

Her birthday seems to be a perfect occasion to watch some of her famous movies, listen to her most famous songs and reminisce about the stories related to them…
