Ronnie Biggs Escapes From Jail (1965)

Ronnie Biggs helped plan and carry out the Great Train Robbery of 1963 which captivated the nation and caused a wide-spread manhunt. It is estimated that Biggs share of the robbery would be the equivalent of just over £3 million in todays money. Biggs was sentenced to 30 years in prison, but ended up serving just 15 months after his elaborate escape plan was successful. He evaded further prosecution for 36 years before returning to jail after returning to the UK  on a private plane paid for by the Sun Newspaper. Biggs died in jail after having his appeal to be released denied.
