Sydney Harbour Bridge opened in Australia (1932)

One of Australia’s most well known and photographed landmarks the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the world’s largest steel arch bridge standing at it highest point 134m (440 ft) above Sydney Harbour. On 19 March 1932 the Sydney Harbour Bridge opened to the public. The event marked the end of almost a century of speculation and planning around a bridge or tunnel that would cross the harbour.
