World Book Day

World Book Day

World Book Day is an amazing day celebrated all over the world to promote reading and literacy amongst the masses! It’s a time of year when we can be extra cheer-y about books and appreciate the way they can make us feel, especially in testing times like these. Believe it or not, World Book Day, originally known as ‘Dia del Libro’, has been around for over 20 years – its roots tracing back to Catalonia in Spain! The idea behind it was to give out books as gifts to each other and appreciate literature on this special day. Did you know that research suggests that reading for pleasure can improve your mental health by reducing stress, developing empathy for others, stimulating the brain and preventing memory loss? Reading groups are used to treat mental illness across the globe.

In many countries, this day is dedicated to free book giveaways, author readings and competitions in libraries, schools, and bookstores. It is a nice reminder that reading can open us up to new ideas and cultures from across the world. A fun way to celebrate World Book Day could be by snuggling up with an exciting new book or re-discovering an old favourite!

With these literary resources, make this day meaningful and enjoy the magic of words!
