World's first moving pictures caught on camera (1878)

At the time of the first captured moving images, short films were distributed very differently with filmmakers travelling around the world distributing their films. These caused quite the stir, with some reports of people running from the building when they saw a moving train on screen! The Méliès brothers helped transform the medium, creating longer and longer pieces and the advent of more sophisticated editing techniques began filmmaking as we know it today.
