Creativity bundle Thumbnail

Part of the Wellbeing and Activities Training for Staff, the Creativity Bundle covers various aspects of wellbeing care that centre around creativity. Whether it’s to learn about how activities such as gardening, crafts, singing and art can enrich the lives of those living in care, or learning how to promote wellness and diversity, the Creativity Bundle takes you through the importance of creativity in activity planning and provides you with all the knowledge you need to transform the quality of life of your residents. 

The Creativity Bundle is CPD Certified and is an add-on to the Wellness Essentials Bundle. The courses in the bundle are face-to-face creative workshops lasting 5 hours and would most benefit Wellbeing Leads and Activity Coordinators but can be undertaken by any member of staff who wishes to upskill their knowledge on how to successfully deliver creative and wide-ranging activity sessions in care homes.

Course 01 - Active Games 

With this creative workshop, you will be equipped with a diverse toolkit for engaging and enhancing the wellbeing of individuals you support through active and creative games. 

You will have the opportunity to explore activities like Bob Fit, which combines boxing techniques with core strength exercises, which fosters physical fitness and aids in the prevention of falls. This workshop also looks at Boccia, which is a precision ball sport with historical significance, teaching the rules and techniques while incorporating drills and games to develop accuracy and teamwork. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Know how to use Bob Fit, combining boxing techniques and core exercises to improve strength and balance 
  • Understand the rules and strategies of Boccia, enabling fun and inclusive sessions for all 
  • Have gained insight into the history and meaning behind activities like boxing, Boccia, and the Olympic Games and be able to develop new games from this 
  • Have gained the skills to lead effective sessions that cater to different abilities and encourage social interaction 
  • Be able to adapt activities for all individuals, promoting participation and wellbeing 
  • Understand the importance of group activities for mental wellbeing and social connection 
  • Know how to use Bob Fit techniques to enhance stability and prevent falls

Course 02 - Active Sports 

This creative workshop is designed to empower you with the expertise and hands-on skills necessary to facilitate creative and inclusive sports sessions for the individuals you support. 

This workshop centres around three distinctive sports: Slipper Soccer, Clock Cricket and Armchair Volleyball. Through active participation, you will not only grasp the core principles of each sport, but also delve into strategies for adaption and inclusivity, ensuring that these games can be enjoyed by all. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Understand the rules and principles of Slipper Soccer, Clock Cricket and Armchair Volleyball 
  • Understand how to make these sports inclusive for all abilities 
  • Be able to create engaging warm-ups and skill-building drills 
  • Know how to ensure safety in sports sessions 
  • Know how to use sports for community building and reminiscing 
  • Gain the ability to blend cognitive exercises with sports activities 
  • Be able to collaborate with families and communities 
  • Know how to adapt equipment for different needs

Course 03 – Choir for All: Inclusive Singing Workshop 

This creative workshop is designed so that, regardless of your job role, you will gain the ability to lead engaging singing sessions for the people you support. Through interactive activities, discussions and practical exercises, you’ll learn how to plan, guide and adapt choir sessions to suit different preferences and abilities. 

During this course, you will explore the positive impact that singing together can have on the wellbeing and connections of individuals. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Learn the skills to be able to guide engaging warm-up activities and icebreakers 
  • Be able to exhibit effective leadership qualities in a choir setting 
  • Comprehend the uplifting impact of singing on personal wellbeing 
  • Understand how to incorporate backing vocals to elevate musical arrangements 
  • Be able to forge connections and bonds through the sharing of musical biographies 
  • Be able to strategically plan and structure compelling singing sessions 
  • Understand how to craft simple yet impactful musical arrangements for songs

Course 04 – Crafting with Purpose 

This creative workshop is uniquely designed so that you can gain a hands-on experience in leading engaging and therapeutic crafting sessions for the individuals you support. 

In this course, you will have the opportunity to gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the transformative art of macrame, mandalas and origami, providing historical context, practical crafting guidance and innovative strategies for adaption.  

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Master the creation of macrame, mandala and origami items 
  • Understand the cultural significance of these crafts and their applicability in care 
  • Appreciate the therapeutic benefits of creative crafting for overall wellbeing 
  • Be able to adapt crafting techniques to suit specific needs and skills 
  • Understand how to facilitate interactive sessions that foster engagement and social connections 
  • Be able to utilise crafting as a tool for emotional balance and relaxation 
  • Understand how to encourage personal expression and creativity among care home residents 

 

 

Course 05 – Cultural Connections: Celebrating Diversity in Care Settings 

This creative workshop will support you in understanding how to promote culture and diversity, while enhancing the wellbeing, creativity and social interactions of individuals living in care. 

You have the opportunity to explore collective culture, storytelling and poetry, giving you the skills to design engaging sessions. The curriculum emphasises personal cultural identities and life stories, fostering connections through shared interests and storytelling. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Value and comprehend diverse cultural elements, recognising their significance in personal identity 
  • Learn how to cultivate connections and interactions by facilitating shared interests, stories and activities 
  • Learn how to plan and confidently lead captivating sessions that highlight individual’s cultural backgrounds and life experiences 
  • Learn how to implement inventive strategies, such as curiosity corners, to stimulate meaningful engagement 
  • Understand and leverage the therapeutic benefits of storytelling and poetry, particularly for individuals living with dementia

Course 06 – Cultivating Gardens for Wellbeing 

This workshop teaches you how to create gardens that promote wellbeing. You will learn about plant needs, location selection and creative container gardening. 

This creative course will give you all the knowledge you need to design personalised miniature gardens which will reflect the individual’s identities. This course also covers cooking with homegrown veggies, making smoothies, involving the community and how to use technology to support this. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Grasp key plant growth factors and apply them to design gardens using creative containers and sensory crops 
  • Understand how to create personalised miniature gardens which reflect individual’s preferences, providing a platform for unique creations 
  • Learn how to prepare nutritious dishes with homegrown vegetables, including delicious and delightful smoothies and appealing buffets 
  • Know how to collaborate effectively within the local community, integrating technology for enriched gardening experiences 
  • Know how to confidently lead gardening sessions, promoting wellbeing, identity and meaningful connections 
  • Understand how to adapt gardening techniques to various spaces, ensuring inclusivity 
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of therapeutic gardening 

 

 

Course 07 – Embracing Nature for Wellbeing 

This creative workshop is designed to enrich the lives of individuals that you support through meaningful interactions with nature. The course covers foundational gardening skills that include seed growth and propagation. 

Nature-based mindfulness activities are also covered in the course, such as guided walk medications as well as teaching you about crafting life stories using the Tree of Life metaphor. 

Through this course, you will gain expertise in fostering wellbeing through hands-on horticultural activities, guiding mindfulness practices, and facilitating personal reflection. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Learn how to grow plants from seeds, cuttings and divisions, as well as how to create self-sustaining terrariums 
  • Learn how to organise natural materials effectively for sensory experiences and learning 
  • Understand how to save seeds, plant properly, and regrow for sustainability 
  • Be able to lead calming nature walks and tailor activities to individual’s wellbeing 
  • Learn how to develop guided walks, maintaining herbarium collections for sensory engagement 
  • Gain the knowledge to design nature activities that benefit physical, emotional and mental wellbeing 
  • Learn how to create short challenges for individuals’ sensory and holistic growth 
  • Be able to help individuals reflect on life experiences, values and achievements using the Tree of Life metaphor 
  • Learn how to guide individuals in crafting nature-inspired life stories using the tree metaphor 

 

 

Course 08 – Enriching Lives through Drama 

This workshop is designed to use drama as a tool for enriching lives and promoting wellbeing. It will take you through improvisation and creative storytelling techniques. 

You will learn how drama benefits emotional expression and communication, while improvisation fosters collaboration and engagement. Creative storytelling introduces the three-act structure and energising exercises. 

Through this course, you will gain practical skills to enhance the lives of care home residents through these creative approaches. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Understand the concept and benefits of drama for emotional expression and psychological wellbeing 
  • Understand and apply the “Yes, and...” principle of improvisation for improved communication and engagement for those living with dementia 
  • Be able to utilise the three-act structure for crafting compelling narratives 
  • Learn how to structure effective drama sessions with check-in, warm-up, main activity and closing components 
  • Understand how to adapt techniques for engaging individuals living with dementia 
  • Learn and develop script-writing skills for various scene lengths 
  • Be able to empower individuals in care through drama and improved self-confidence and social interaction 
  • Be able to deliver enriching sessions that enhance the emotional wellbeing of people using the service 

 

 

Course 09 – Expressive Movement: Dancing for Wellbeing and Connection 

This creative workshop gives you all the knowledge that you require for creating, running and leading engaging and inclusive dance sessions for individuals with various levels of mobility. You will learn essential skills like the understanding of beats, choreography and adapting sessions for seated routines. 

This workshop will cover a range of dance styles including line dancing, ballroom, Latin and tap. 

The workshop will also teach you how to promote self-expression and wellbeing through dance. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Grasp the fundamentals of dance, including beat counting, choreography, comprehension and adaptability for different situations 
  • Learn how to modify dance routines to accommodate seated individuals, limited movement and individuals living in bed so as to ensure inclusivity.  
  • Be able to showcase proficiency in various dance styles like line dancing, waltz, cha cha cha, jive and tap, enabling diverse sessions 
  • Understand how to utilise movement to enhance individuals’ physical and mental wellbeing, incorporating energisers for a positive atmosphere 
  • Be able to encourage self-expression and social interaction among people using the service, fostering meaningful connections 
  • Understand how to develop personalised dance routines tailored to specific needs, displaying flexibility and creativity 

 

 

 

Course 10 – Sensory Wellness: Promoting Relaxation and Stimulation 

This workshop will teach you how to provide meaningful sensory sessions for the care home residents you support. The workshop covers topics such as the importance of sensory wellbeing, creating a sensory-friendly environment building strong relationships exploring the senses, using massage and movement for relaxation, incorporating crafts and music for creativity. 

The workshop will show you how to ensure your approach is consistent and meaningful while giving you the knowledge of how to plan and safely run the sessions. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Understand how sensory experiences improve emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life 
  • Learn how to create sensory-friendly spaces in care homes using the principles of lighting, colour, texture and sound 
  • Learn how to build meaningful connections with individuals, fostering trust and comfort 
  • Be able to tailor sensory experiences to individual needs that are based on touch, sight, sound, smell and taste  
  • Understand how to use safe techniques for relaxation through massage and movement 
  • Be able to lead sensory-inspired craft and music activities for self-expression and engagement 
  • Learn how to plan and conduct well-structured sensory sessions with effective communication 
  • Understand how to ensure the safety of individuals by following guidelines during sensory activities

Course 11 – The Art of Tranquillity 

In this creative workshop, we investigate the journey of holistic wellness practices. Through three immersive units, you will have the opportunity to explore the fluid movements of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, the gentle stretches of Pilates and Yoga, and the profound benefits of breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques. 

Practical sessions will empower you to experience and lead these techniques so that you can confidently deliver your own sessions to care home residents. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Learn how to lead slow, calming movements with deep breathing, inspired by Tai Chi and Qi Gong 
  • Learn how to lead and guide gentle stretches with controlled breathing, inspired by Pilates and Yoga 
  • Be able to apply varied breathing and mindfulness methods for stress reduction and mental clarity 
  • Learn how to design and conduct tailored relaxation sessions for individuals using learned techniques 
  • Be able to cultivate personal wellbeing and create a peaceful care environment through practiced skills 
  • Be able to improve individuals’ overall wellness through these holistic practices 

 

 

Course 12 – The Beauty of Ballet 

This creative workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of ballet’s transformative power for an individual’s physical and mental wellbeing. 

Through structured progression, you will learn the foundational barre positions, delve into the history of ballet and master centre practice techniques like Port de Bras, Battement Tandus, Grande Battement, Adage and Allegro. 

The workshop culminates in teaching you how to craft personalised routines, amalgamating learned techniques, fostering creativity and adapting to an individual’s needs. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Understand how sensory experiences improve emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life

This workshop will delve into the captivating and immersive world of painting, collage and sculpture and will empower you with the skills, knowledge and creativity needed to engage and enrich the lives of the care home residents you support. 

In this workshop, you will experience and cultivate therapeutic and joyful artistic experiences. You will be taken through the basics of each art form so that you can gain practical insights into designing and leading art sessions for individuals within your care, enhancing their emotional wellbeing and cognitive abilities. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Possess the fundamental knowledge of painting, collage and sculpture, including materials, tools and techniques 
  • Be able to tailor creative projects match individuals’ preferences, memories and abilities, all while integrating sensory elements 
  • Have the knowledge to adapt art sessions for people with diverse cognitive and physical capabilities, fostering an inclusive atmosphere 
  • Be able to lead guided painting, collage and sculpture activities that encourage engagement and creativity 
  • Have the skills and knowledge to develop communication skills to encourage participation and maintain a positive atmosphere during art sessions

Course 14 – Wildlife Education and Engagement of Care Setting 

This creative workshop will introduce you to the world of wildlife watching, conservation, and will show you how to practice seasonal monitoring across the year. We will talk through and demonstrate hands-on activities, crafts, quizzes and sensory experiences 

Through this course, you will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to connect with nature and lead wildlife sessions throughout the seasons, making a positive impact on the environment whilst enriching the lives of the residents you support. 

At the end of this course, you will: 

  • Have the skills and knowledge needed to confidently begin observing and tracking birds and other wildlife using photography and visual aids 
  • Be able to implement meaningful crafting sessions, such as crafting bird feeders and enhancing habitats to support local wildlife and foster biodiversity 
  • Have the skills and knowledge to develop effective strategies to conduct engaging wildlife sessions throughout the seasons 
  • Embrace eco-friendly habitats and contribute to the wellbeing of the environment by promoting biodiversity 
  • Be able to skilfully design sensory nature sessions that provide immersive experiences through interactive wildlife elements
